A) Intro to the Video Series
Hello everyone, thanks for tuning in to this video series.
I pick up where I left off in the first PLC training video, and this time we can talk about I/O, finally....
Refresher:
In the first series, we did a pizza oven situation, but everything was virtual. I just used on-screen buttons and things like that.
Our new objective:
But now, thanks to Beckhoff, one of the app engineers I know was kind enough to let me borrow his test stand for a couple of weeks to shoot these videos. (So, I appreciate that. Thank you very much).
Note: Other than that, I don't really have an official affiliation with Beckhoff, so I wanted to make sure I get that out of the way. I did use Beckhoff quite a bit in my former job as an automation integrator.
So, I would program servos and motion systems for custom robotics and things like that.
So, I'm pretty familiar with all of this equipment, and I'm gonna hopefully bring you up to speed, maybe not an expert level, but just where you kind of know what you're getting into, you know what the capabilities are of these systems, and you know, hopefully bridge that learning gap that, you know, I, the first series was meant to do that, and I think it did as far as the programming side of things go.
But this is gonna get into:
- the EtherCAT Network,
- PLC open motion control,
- things like that....
EtherCAT - example:
- EP4 - Beckhoff TwinCAT IO (EtherCAT Master for Digital Inputs and Outputs)
- EP5 - EtherCAT (Fieldbus and Topology explained)
PLCopen - example:
- EP7 - Introduction to the PLCopen standard for Motion Control
- EP8 - Using Motion Control Blocks for a Servo Motor (MC_Power, MC_Reset, and MC_Jog)
- EP9 - Using Motion Control Blocksfor a Servo Motor (MC_MoveVelocity)
So, stuff that's very important and not super intuitive. So, that's the plan for this video series.
Thanks for Beckhoff again, and we're gonna play around this servo test bench and move some motors and do some stuff like that. So, hop onto the next video, and we'll get started.
